Anna Murdoch Mann is a Scottish journalist and novelist. Anna Murdoch Mann was born in Glasgow, Scotland in June 1944. She married Rupert Murdoch in 1967. They divorced in 1999. Anna Murdoch Mann married William Mann in 1999 after having three children with Murdoch: Elizabeth Murdoch, Lachlan Murdoch, and James Murdoch. Mann started her journalism career at 18 and worked for the Sydney Daily Mirror and then the Australian Daily Telegraph before serving on the board of directors of News Corporation. Anna Murdoch Mann authored the books In Her Image in 1986, Family Business in 1988, and Coming to Terms in 1992. Anna Murdoch Mann received $1.7 billion when she divorced Rupert Murdoch in 1999 and now lives in The Hamptons. She was made a Dame of the Order of St. Gregory the Great in 1998. She is living a happy life with her family.

Anna Maria Torv was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1944. She is the daughter of Jakob Törv and  Sylvia Iris Bodfish. Her father was an Estonian merchant seaman. Her mother was a Scottish drycleaner’s shop assistant. Her parents had a drycleaning business in Glasgow until they emigrated to Australia. She has two brothers, Jaan and Hans Arvid, and one sister, Karin Elisabeth. She attended Our Lady of Mercy College, Parramatta, New South Wales.

Anna Murdoch Mann’s successful career

Torv started her journalistic career at 18, working for Sydney’s Daily Mirror and as a journalist for the Sydney Daily Telegraph. She later served on the board of directors of News Corporation. Under the name Anna Murdoch, she wrote the novel In Her Image (1985). It is about two sisters who fall in love with the same man at a Sheep Station close to the Murrumbidgee River.

Torv was married to media mogul Rupert Murdoch from 1967 to 1999. They have three children. Elisabeth Murdoch was born in 1968. Lachian Murdoch was born in 1971. James Murdoch was born in 1972. They divorced on 8 June 1999 due to Rupert’s affair with Wendi Deng. Anna received $1.7 billion from the settlement. She was instrumental in setting up a family trust at this time to protect her children. She remarried six months later, in December 1999, to William Mann. They remained married until his death in August 2017.  The couple resided in The Hamptons, New York, in a house that they bought from philanthropist Yasmin Aga Khan in 2000. After Mann’s death, she married again in April 2019 to Ashton dePeyster and became known as Anna Maria dePeyster. She is the aunt of Australian actress Anna Torv, whose father is dePeyster’s brother the broadcaster Hans Torv. In 1998, then Anna Murdoch was made a Dame of the Order of St. Gregory the Great, an honorary order conferred by Pope John Paul, for having supported the Archdiocesan Education Foundation and other Catholic causes in Los Angeles.
